Phnom Penh Market Guide

First time visitors to the Cambodian capital are often amazed by the number of local markets in Phnom Penh. Sometimes they can seem bewildering, but do not worry that is why we have created our own Phnom Penh market guide to assist you.

Major Phnom Penh Markets

There is no other place to start our Phnom Penh market guide than at the Central Market (Phsar Thmey). This striking art deco building was opened in 1937, and was recently restored to its former beauty. Not only is it arguably the most beautiful building in town, it also has a range of goods ranging from gadgets to watches, jewellery and food to buy inside, as well as numerous electronics and phone shops dotted around its exterior.

Popular with visitors, the Russian Market (Phsar Toul Tom Pong) is a rabbit warren of a building with lots of clothes and souvenirs on sale as well as phone shops and coffee shops nearby.

For a more authentic Cambodian experience you should head to the Old Market (Phsar Chas) where people come to buy fish, meat and vegetables, or Kandal market (Phsar Kandal), which has a great range of electronic shops, close to the riverfront. There is also Orussey Market (Phsar Orussey) and the Phnom Penh Night Market (Phsar Reatrey).

Local Markets

However, in Phnom Penh you don’t have to travel far to find a local market. So, if you were to follow our advice and buy a property in Kambol, you have plenty of local markets right on your doorstep.

Romdul Market is a great place to buy local goods, and is located right in Borey Williams Project 1. Whereas a little further afield – a 10-minute drive – is Doeurm Kor Tmey, a local market located on the Win-Win Boulevard, which is a wholesale vegetable market, making it the place to go in Phnom Penh for cheap fresh local vegetables.
